Copy the model files to your game folder. The main files are v_ak47.mdl (first-person view), p_ak47.mdl (player model in hands), and w_ak47.mdl (world model on the ground). Put them in cstrike/models and confirm the replacement when prompted. If you use a localized version, check cstrike_russian/models as well, because files there have priority.

All weapon model files go into the models folder inside your game directory. For a standard installation that is cstrike/models. Custom sounds that come with the model usually go to cstrike/sound/weapons. If the archive has a cstrike folder, you can merge it with your game folder and overwrite when asked.

CS 1.6 does not have a model menu. The game uses the files in cstrike/models automatically. After copying v_ak47.mdl, p_ak47.mdl, and w_ak47.mdl, start the game and buy an AK-47. If the old model still appears, make sure the files are in the correct folder and that you replaced the originals.

• Check that the file names are exactly v_ak47.mdl, p_ak47.mdl, and w_ak47.mdl.
• Make sure they are in cstrike/models and not in a subfolder.
• If you have a localized version, also check cstrike_russian/models.
• Restart the game after copying the files.

Delete the custom v_ak47.mdl, p_ak47.mdl, and w_ak47.mdl from cstrike/models. Then verify the game files through Steam or reinstall the game to get the original models back. Keeping a backup of the default files before replacing them makes this easier.

On most servers you can use your own client-side models, but the server may replace them with its own files or kick you for file consistency. If the server enforces consistency, your custom AK-47 model will not be used. In that case, remove the custom files or play on a server that allows them.

A crash usually means the model file is corrupted or not compatible with your game version. Remove the custom v_ak47.mdl, p_ak47.mdl, and w_ak47.mdl from cstrike/models and test the game. If it works, download the model again from a different source. Also check that the model does not require extra files that you did not install.
